About Hawaii SEED

Our Mission & Vision

Mission: Hawaii SEED works to educate the public, government, and business communities about locally based agricultural systems that support real food security in Hawaii. We advocate for diverse, ecological, sustainable agriculture while highlighting the risks posed by genetically engineered organisms (GMOs).

Vision: We envision a Hawaii where communities have access to healthy, locally grown food, where sustainable farming practices protect our islands' ecosystems, and where food security is built on ecological principles rather than industrial agriculture.

Why We Exist

Hawaii imports over 90% of its food, making the islands vulnerable to supply chain disruptions and dependent on industrial agricultural practices. Hawaii SEED exists to reverse this trend by:

  • Educating communities about sustainable agriculture and food security
  • Advocating for GMO labeling and transparency in food systems
  • Supporting local policy work on agricultural resilience
  • Promoting ecological farming practices that protect Hawaii's natural resources
  • Building grassroots campaigns for a healthier food future
